Marathon Madness

In October 2003, Paula and her husband decided to set a new goal – to run a full marathon.  They found a training schedule on the Internet and registered for the Houston marathon.
Paula read on the Houston Marathon Internet site about how thousands of runners make “Every step count” by raising money for charities.  She decided to use her marathon to help raise money for a sick baby in her community.  Paula sent home a letter with each of her fourth and fifth grade students.  These incredible kids and their parents helped Paula raise approximately $2,000 for this sick child.
Paula and her husband completed the Houston Marathon in January of 2004.  They have also completed the Houston Marathon in 2005 and 2006, and in April of 2006 they finished the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.  Bruchhaus laughs, “People comment all the time about how nice it is that my husband and I run together.  The truth is – we don’t actually run TOGETHER because he’s much faster than I am.  However, it is nice to share a common interest, an occasional long training run together, and to have him waiting at the finish line for me."
