Paula is a fourth grade teacher.  She and her husband have two children.  At thirty-five years old, after a lifetime of obesity, Paula decided that it was time to change her lifestyle.  She started exercising before school every morning at Gigi’s Fitness Center near her home.  As the weight fell off, Paula starting running (very slowly at first) in races.  Six months later when she mentioned her idea of trying a triathlon her dad laughed.  His laughter was her motivation, and she borrowed a bike determined to finish the triathlon.  The excitement of crossing the finish line that hot July day was all the motivation she needed to continue this whirlwind of adventure.
In January of 2005, she was contacted to have her story published in a book about women running marathons.  The excitement continued in April of 2005 when she was flown to Boca Raton, Florida for a photo shoot for Looking Good Now magazine.  Three days after returning home from the photo shoot,  she was told that she would be on the cover of the June/July issue.
September 24, 2005, the day Hurricane Rita hit her hometown, she achieved her ultimate goal,
 a full Ironman distance triathlon!!
